About the Retreat

Fasting for the Gods is a unique 10-day guided online fasting retreat, rarely found in this form, held as a collective ritual and a conscious pause from food, overstimulation, and habitual intake.

Fasting is one of the oldest practices known to humankind. Across cultures and times, it has been used not only for healing, but for clarity, initiation, prayer, and strengthening the relationship between body, mind, and perception.

At its core, fasting is a reclaiming of the body.

By temporarily stopping external intake, the body’s own intelligence can come forward - its rhythms, signals, and language become clearer, sometimes for the first time. This retreat creates the conditions to:

  • strengthen the body physically
  • support deep detoxification processes
  • establish healthier, more conscious habits
  • sharpen the senses+ re-learn how to listen to the body’s signals with trust and sovereignty
  • deepen self-connection and trust in the body’s language
  • cultivate a sense of sovereignty, presence, and inner orientation

For many, this means refining an already existing body awareness.

For others, it is the first time the body’s language becomes audible at all.

Daily Rhythm & Live Sessions

The retreat follows a shared daily rhythm to support continuity and connection.

We meet daily in the mornings - on weekdays at 7:30 AM (CET) and on weekends at 8:30 AM (CET) - for live sessions. On most days, there is an additional short evening session (e.g. a bedtime meditation)

The exact schedule may shift slightly over the course of the retreat, depending on the phase of the fasting process, the need for rest and integration, or the presence of special guest facilitator sessions. All session times and any changes are communicated clearly in advance.

Live sessions are recommended but not mandatory. Participants are encouraged to listen to their own capacity and needs, recordings will be provided.

Fasting as Medicine & Sovereignty

Temporarily stopping intake - food, stimulants, constant consumption - is one of the most powerful self-regulatory tools available to us.

Within safe and conscious frameworks, fasting allows the body to redirect energy from digestion to repair, cleansing, and regeneration. At the same time, mental clarity often increases, emotional patterns surface more clearly, and perception sharpens. A return to bodily sovereignty and self-trust. This retreat does not promise miracles, but it offers something real: the experience of the body as an ally rather than an object to control.

Fasting Approach

The fasting practice is inspired by the Buchinger method and adapted for an online, ritual-based setting.

Participants are introduced to the principles of Buchinger fasting, while individual needs and limits are carefully respected. Different levels of fasting are possible (e.g. liquids, juices, light nourishment), depending on personal experience, health situation, and daily responsibilities.

Kundalini Yoga & Breathwork as Allies

During fasting, the body enters a heightened, more sensitive state.

In this state, practices like Kundalini yoga and breathwork can become especially potent allies.

Kundalini kriyas, meditation, and Psychedelic Breath® are used to:

  • support detox and circulation
  • stabilize the nervous system
  • help integrate physical, emotional, and mental processes
  • access deeper layers of awareness with clarity rather than force

Because the system is less occupied with digestion and external input, these practices often reach much deeper than in everyday conditions.

All practices are guided with care and are accessible for beginners as well as meaningful for experienced practitioners. Modifications and self-pacing are always encouraged.

What We Will Do Together

Over the 10 days, the fasting process is accompanied by:

Essence

One fasting rite.

One pause from the noise.

A return to the body --

its wisdom, its language, its strength.

And beyond that, a return to connection:

to ourselves, to one another, and to the larger web of life we are part of.

This retreat is held as a gesture of care, compassion, and shared presence -

a quiet remembering of what it means to be human, together.

Facilitation

The retreat is guided by Nicola Sangs, an audio-visual artist, voice practitioner, and facilitator working at the intersection of ritual, sound, and embodied practice.

She has been practicing fasting for over 14 years and is guiding Fasting for the Gods for the sixth time. Nicola is a certified Kundalini yoga teacher and sound meditation guide. Her approach is grounded in long-term personal practice, careful preparation, and a deep respect for the intelligence and limits of the body.

In this edition, Nicola is joined by selected guest facilitators who support specific aspects of the process:

Carla Kuhlmann, who guides a Psychedelic Breath® session, supporting the transition into a non-consumption space and deeper states of awareness

A certified Heilpraktikerin, who offers a masterclass on physical detox processes, bodily regulation, and safe fasting support

Together, the facilitation team holds the retreat as a shared, attentive process : combining fasting, movement, breath, sound, and ritual in a grounded and responsible way.
